Liam Chartrand

"I strive to push others to surpass expectations, and lead with positivity."

Hello! My name is Liam Chartrand and I am currently a senior in the class of 2025 at Saratoga Springs High School. I love being outdoors, spending time with friends and family, and playing tennis and hockey. I have been on the Boys Varsity Tennis Team for 6 years, starting in my 7th grade season, and have been captain since Junior year. I have been on the Varsity Ice Hockey Team for 2 years, starting in my junior year, and I try to have a powerful impact on the ice. I am a member of National Honors Society and Spanish National Honors Society, and I am a class officer, as well as president of our school’s Entrepreneurs Club. I founded a program to give free tennis lessons to children aged 6-13, and plan to spend the majority of my upcoming summer expanding that program across the Capital Region.

How did you meet Coach Rich Johns?
I met Rich Johns through my mother, as he was her tennis coach throughout her high school tennis career at Saratoga Springs High School. I also met him at our varsity practices and matches, as he would come out to speak to our team and give us advice on becoming both better tennis players and teammates. His advice is always very heartfelt, and inspires us to do the best we can in all our match play and practices.

How did you hear about Act With Respect Always?
I heard about Act With Respect Always through the banners I always see in front of my neighbors’ houses. I learned about the message from Rich Johns when he came to our practices, where he would explain the purpose of Act With Respect Always, as well as hand out shirts and bracelets to our team.

How has the Act With Respect Always mission affected you personally?
Act With Respect Always has had a huge impact on how I act as an athlete, student, and captain. I carry a bracelet in my tennis bag at all times as a reminder to not only be the best person I can be, but also to push others around me to be the best they can be. I strive to push others to surpass expectations, and lead with positivity.

Please share with us how you have, or will in the future “Pay it Forward”
I strive to “Pay It Forward” through my program, Rally For Youth. I love teaching kids’ tennis, and have so much fun knowing I am expanding the sport of tennis across my community. Hearing the words “Thanks Coach Liam” after each practice brings me so much joy knowing I am not only teaching them the sport, but also boosting their confidence. I also strive to “Pay It Forward” through my sports by encouraging my teammates and showing respect to everyone I compete with.

How would you describe the Act With Respect Always mission to others?
The Act With Respect Always message is one that teaches people to be the best person they can be. It teaches to respect others, support those around you, and to never judge anyone, regardless of the situation. It is a vital message that I personally believe all student athletes should use to better themselves in their sport and social life.

Would you recommend Rich to speak about Respect to others?
I would 100% recommend Rich Johns to speak to others about Respect and its message. Rich is a powerful speaker, and having him come to our matches and practices is a huge reason behind our success both on and off the court. I am proud to be able to spread his message, and hope to be a part of inspiring others in the future.
