Hannah Pendergast
"AWRA has reinforced my belief in treating all my teammates and opponents equally"My name is Hannah Pendergast. I am a senior at Saratoga Springs High School where I am involved with the Generation Outreach club. I enjoy playing tennis, soccer, and cross country skiing.
How did you meet Coach Rich Johns?
I first met Coach Johns in seventh grade while on the Saratoga JV Tennis Team. He was an active part of our team, volunteering to coach. He has continued to work with the team and the impact he has left is evident through the tennis team’s record and reputation.
How did you hear about Act With Respect Always?
While with the tennis team, Coach Johns was always helping us understand the AWRA message.
How has the Act With Respect Alway mission effected you personally?
The Act With Respect Always mission has reinforced my belief in treating all my teammates and opponents equally and with respect and helps me encourage my teammates to do the same. Over the years, the messages that Coach Johns has passed along to me have helped me understand the importance of not just respect, but empathy and acceptance.
Please share with us how you have, or will in the future “Pay it Forward”
Being involved with the Generation Outreach club with Mr. O’Brien has been such a natural way for me to Pay It Forward. Equipping nursing homes with iPods and headphones so people with dementia and Alzheimer’s can get music therapy has allowed our generation to help older adults. Working with the staff so they can get the program going on their own and train others has expanded the impact of our club and in the future we plan on paying it forward to more communities.
How would you describe the Act With Respect Always mission to others?
I would describe the Act With Respect Always mission as a focus on your impact on others. Coach Johns not only speaks about a more respectful lifestyle, he lives it every day.
Would you recommend Rich to speak about Respect to others?
Without a doubt. Coach Johns has a message that should be shared with everyone.
