Kaleb Lewis

"Always stepping up to lead in whatever I do in my life"

My name is Kaleb Lewis and I am a senior at Saratoga High School. I have been fortunate to play for Coach Matt Usher as a member of the Varsity Basketball Team. I plan to attend college next fall, study exercise science, and to play basketball.

How did you meet Coach Rich Johns?
I met Coach Johns, at a young age, while attending basketball camps that my father ran. Coach Johns was a guest speaker. I grew up listening to him speak over the years, at these camps and then later volunteering at the camps. I became good friends with Coach.

How has the Act With Respect Alway mission affected you personally?
Personally, the program has had a large effect on the way I behave in my everyday life. It’s one of the standards I always hold myself to. It represents how to carry yourself the right way both on and off the court. Always stepping up to lead in whatever I do in my life.

Please share with us how you have, or will in the future “Pay it Forward”
I hope to continue my work with young athletes who wish to learn the game of basketball. I hope to run my own basketball camp someday. Being kind to others and treating them with respect is a constant “pay it forward” that I hope others learn from me and pass on. I hope to always live with empathy for others.

How would you describe the Act With Respect Always mission to others?
The Act With Respect Always community is a group of great people focusing on doing the right thing. It goes far beyond athletics. It has helped me to focus on the right values in everyday life and treating all people the right way. Constantly asking yourself “what’s your/my 99” helps me to focus on what positive change can I make every day.

Would you recommend Rich to speak about Respect to others?
Coach Johns has had a very positive effect on my athletic career and has become an asset to many young athletes in our community. I think everyone, of all ages, should take the opportunity to hear Coach speak and become acquainted to the AWRA message.
