"Students value an environment where they have a voice."When teaching respect in the classroom it is important to model respectful behavior. My students will learn by my example. It is important to show all people respect, despite our differences.
Students value an environment where they have a voice. In my classroom I promote democratic values where the students are heard and their opinions matter. My students are an integral part of the class.
Finally, it is crucial to establish interaction among the students so that they can form friendships. By creating a strong bond among my students, they are more tolerant of each other. Tolerance is one of the building blocks of respect.
For the past few years we have invited Coach Johns in to give his presentation on Respect. The program is outstanding! The information is meaningful to the students. The presentation is easy to follow and they enjoy Coach Johns’ performance as well as his video anecdotes. The students walk away with several strategies to handle peer pressure, stress and bullying. But more importantly, they have a greater understanding of how to handle differences among themselves and know their responsibility to those around them.
